Youth Basketball ~ Site Change & Pictures

 Dear Youth Basketball Families,

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for participating in youth sports through the Holmen Park & Recreation Department, and to wish your family the happiest of Holidays. Also, I would like to apologize for the confusion regarding activity sites and practice space that we have encountered. These issues have become ongoing problems that I have been met with from the school district. Let me take a moment to explain how the problems came to be.

 ·         The Monday following our first meeting for basketball the Activities office at the School District informed me that we would not be able to lower any of the baskets at any school district facility for the young kids to be able to shoot at with success. As a result we decided to pursue Evergreen as a new site because both gyms have fixed 8’ baskets for the 1^st- 4^th grades to use.

·         Once the move was announced to the parents and approved by the activities office, the Evergreen Principal informed us that Evergreen school policy would not allow Saturday usage of the “old” gym because of the accessibility to the rest of the building. This led to the overcrowding of the gym at Evergreen on Saturday, December 20^th.  

For these reasons we have come to the conclusion that our only option is to move the program BACK to VIKING ELEMENTARY for the remainder of the season. While we will not be able to lower the baskets, I have found a substantial number of smaller rookie sized basketballs that can be used as an alternative option to the junior size that we currently have. All meeting times will remain the same as scheduled for each group.

 I would ask that you please be understanding of our youth basketball staff who are excited for a great year, and with our department as we are dealing with these challenges the best way we know how as they have been presented to us. I hope to see you all on January 3^rd for our next meeting at Viking Elementary.

Team Picture Day has been arranged with Design Photography for January 10^th. First and second grade boys and girls will have their team photo taken right after their game, and third and fourth graders will follow at approximately halftime of their game. Please be sure to get a picture order form from your coach on January 3^rd.
